I did the UNTHINKABLE! Gave scratch to the chicks! HELP!

I have been giving my chicks scratch along with chick grit, that is for those that I hand raise, but when mama raises her brood, she likes her scratch and the chicks do as she does, I have not lost one yet to eating scratch. Mama knows best I guess when it comes to raising her own brood.

Pine shavings are great. There is no need to worry, your chicks will be fine. Just stop feeding them scratch and only feed them chick starter! The bulge on their chest is nothing to worry about. It is called a crop. When a chicken eats it gets larger. I hope that clears everything up for you.
