How exciting!! You didn't even have to go through the long 21 day wait, lucky.
If she is a brahma then she should have black feathers in a collar around her neck and also on the end of her tail, and feathered feet, and a pea comb. If she is a buff orpington she should be yellow feathered with a single straight red comb and probably good sized wattles, and no feathers on the legs.
I want to see pictures of the momma and her chicks!
3 CHICKS now only two left to hatch. Keeping my fingers crossed. Torie finally let me know that I was not welcome in the nursery with a sharp strike of her beak when I went to check on chick number three. The first chick was up and around when I went out and immediately ran over to me. It was the cutest thing. I held it and wished that I had brought my camera out with me. Anyway, afterwards I went out to TS and of course they were just getting in a new shipment of chicks.... so ummm... now I have 6 new babies to add to Torie's 3.
Here is a photo of the proud new parents. I'll get fuzzy butt photos as soon as she'll let me. I would like to remove the chicks rather quickly and keep them in the house for a few weeks. I say this because it's getting very hot outside 90+ and we have fire ants that will happily eat a chick alive. I don't like to tempt fate if I can help it. How soon do you think I could do this?
Looking at Torie, I don't think she's any particular breed. I love her anyway.
I had never heard of a Nankin but I looked them up and yes, I have to agree with you Cache looks very much like one. The woman I bought Cache and Torie from has over 50 breeds of chickens. I'll have to ask her if she has any Nankin in her stock. She has some of the most beautiful chickens. She brings pairs to sell at her business which is how we met. She called me and offered me a pair of Seramas (sp?) but we haven't set up our new pens yet and I really want chickens that will lay decent sized eggs or for meat. I think she's more into showing her chickens.
Ok as promised here are my fuzz butt babies. Only three hatched but I'm thrilled to have them. The photos also give a better idea of what Torie looks like. She's definitely an EE but I'm thinking maybe Brahma mixed in?
