I didn't want chickens, really.

Herre I thought I was doing pretty well just knowing which end of the chicken was which and you bring up "chicken math"....I have no clue what that is. what is "chicken math"? I'm thinking it's not something the chickens do...
Chicken math...
When a hen dies (for whatever reason) and you decide that you need a replacement to keep the egg count up. So you set 3 dozen eggs in the incubator.
This may or may not be a true story....
Or you go to the feed store and come home with 6 chicks. But the next time you go, just a week later, they have different breeds, so you get a few more.

In terms of keeping them healthy, they need to be fed chicken feed. And treats should be kept to no more than 10% of their daily diet. Nutrient deficiencies can cause some serious health and behavior issues. Crushed oyster shell should also be available to them.

H NOW I GET THE CHICKEN MATH!!! only at this house it has been cats. I have no cat I have ever went out and got. I did take 2 years and years ago from a lady who had to move back to Austrailia to care for her mother and did not feel her very shy, scared little kitty would do well in the very enforced 2 year quarantine set by Austrailian law. That little girl now runs the house and will beat the tarnation out of anyone nearby if I yell and she feels they are the target.
Anyway here cat math, is actually a sign at the end of the driveway that none of us can see that tells all abandoned, neglected, abused, running away from cats, they all have a home here, if we cannot find them a better home elsewhere. Currently at 23 cats-thank god we have space and husband has patience. and now chickens...

...I will not have 23 chickens!! Please do not let the neighbor get more chickens.

Sure you say that now...
That's only because you haven't realized that there are different breeds that lay different colored eggs, like the blue of Araucana or the dark brown of Marans. And some have feathered feet. And some have fluffy cheeks, or crests, or silkied feathers...
Very few ever avoid falling into the chicken math abyss.
