Chicken math...Herre I thought I was doing pretty well just knowing which end of the chicken was which and you bring up "chicken math"....I have no clue what that is. what is "chicken math"? I'm thinking it's not something the chickens do...
When a hen dies (for whatever reason) and you decide that you need a replacement to keep the egg count up. So you set 3 dozen eggs in the incubator.
This may or may not be a true story....
Or you go to the feed store and come home with 6 chicks. But the next time you go, just a week later, they have different breeds, so you get a few more.
In terms of keeping them healthy, they need to be fed chicken feed. And treats should be kept to no more than 10% of their daily diet. Nutrient deficiencies can cause some serious health and behavior issues. Crushed oyster shell should also be available to them.
