I do NOT like cornish x's.....

I have 6 Cornish Crosses in with my egg laying chicks, 2 turkey chicks and 2 goslings. I got them cheap (or was it cheep?

) because they were so aggressive at the Quality Supply. They told me they were getting nasty because they had overcrowded the birds and needed to get rid of some. Hence the sale

My cornish crosses are just fine and not aggressive at all, BUT I have 25 birds in a 6x6 foot brooder. I use three feeders that allow all my birds to eat and get away from each other as well as three waterers. Maybe this is overkill, but the birds are happy. I remove the feeders before dark and give them greens and pieces of bread to peck on as well as an unlimited supply of chick grit. I'll be able to move them to a separate pen once they get too big but since they're only here until mid-June, I figure unless I see aggression from overcrowding, I'll keep them with the other chicks.

This is my newbie experience. YMMV.

Aggresive! I say every day when I handle my 26 cx's I can't beleive how docile they are! They won't even bite when you stick your finger right in front of them, not even when I grab them by the beak(I got your beak) it's my brown leghorns that like to bite! they even jump up as your walking by to bite you on the end of the fingers..I hope it's just a phase they just started this about a week ago I have them all trained to fly up and land on an outstretched arm for pets, now they peck!!

We love them! Especially when they are rubbed down with olive oil, seasoned with fresh chopped rosemary and tyme; steamed for 30 minutes then adding home grown sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, cauliflower and broccoli until tender. Then severed hot without salt, butter or gravy--allowing the true taste to dance on your tongue. Ah, such a heavenly feasting! All worth the extra effort.

I am very pleased with the 60 that I got from Meyers hatchery - they are showing more of a "regular" chickens traits than the ones that I have had in the past. at 6 weeks are jumping around-sparring-flying up on hay bales - and some even waddle over for me to rub their bellies when I come in the coop. the bigger roos will peck if I step in the pen right in front of them, but otherwise just look at me. and, they are also growing huge! - I am on more of a 10 on - 14 off schedule with their food to slow them down the last few weeks.

I'm in KY, and I'm interested in your Delawares. Are you going to be selling fertile eggs/chicks? If so, could you PM some details, like how big your get/how fast? I had some Dels that acted like velociraptors, at least the roos did. I saw them work as a pack, to surround and attack baby chicks. Fortunately, the chicks had an alert, protective mama hen who flew in, enraged, and drove them off. She was on it before i could react, when I recognized what was happening.

I gave one roo away, and we ate the rest. I kept the hens, they're fine.

I get my meaties from Meyers too, they're only fiesty when we're late serving them a meal. Heading to the freezer in just about 2 weeks.

PMed you. I think I could help you. You might help me... I just thought of it... but if you are close enough and are willing to maybe meet me halfway... I have a clutch of eggs in the 'bator now for a woman who wants hens... I could sell you the roosters. They are only on day 6 so you have time to think about it. I am overrun right now and was wondering what to do with them. The eggs are from my breeding stock too.

My meaties at 2 wks out on free range with surrogate mama. They only get fed once a day with the rest of the flock and they wait patiently for their turn. Nice but very silly birds....they don't act particular piggish or mean in their behaviours. I got them from TSC, so not sure what hatchery they use.
