emjay, it seems like you're searching for something that you did but maybe you're not directly at fault at all, could it possibly be that something got into your coop today and got him? Weasels can be active during the day and can get into the smallest openings. I'm sorry about your loss. Hang in there.

I don't think it was a weasel, as he was in with a group of 7. and beside them is another flock of youngsters.

I understand your feelings totally. I'd come across four different times where one of my babies has died totally out of the blue. And sadly one of them was a chick that had been doing great for four weeks, only to die because it got relegated from it's mother behind chicken wire fencing that was supposed to keep it safe. It got to cold and died that night. I was heart broken because it had been me that built the area she and her mom were staying in (still feel guilty about that)
