I don't know what to do with my drakes.

I went to the feed store and ordered 7 chickens and 4 ducks. All were supposed to be sexed and female. I ended up with 2 drakes and a rooster. I know that I don't even have enough hens for one Drake but I don't know how to get rid of them or which one to keep if I do. One is a beautiful Mallard. The other is a Cayuga. I can't remember what the females are. They are the same breed. Big white ducks with black. My son knows but I don't. Any ideas on what I should do? All advise is appreciated

Any warranty on sexing? You should at least get a partial refund.

I doubt it. They were pretty clueless. It's not enough to be worth the effort anyway. My son is so attached to both of them. He's a senior in high school but literally holds each of them every day. We got them mainly for pets ( with eggs being a bonus). I would get rid of the hens but we have chickens so that's probably not a good idea

Would it be possible for you to add more hens to your flock? If you could get more females for your drakes then you might not have problems. I had two drakes and two hens for a couple years at one point without issues but it is not good for the females. Mine were raised together as babies and the drakes never fought or overmated the females. It just depends on the particular drake I guess. I would say that If you do not wish to rehome either of the drakes, then finding more females would be best. Good luck with your ducks! :D

Thanks. My husband would not go for it. His solution is to eat one. I find that idea disgusting. Not eating ducks in general. I grew up on a farm and slaughtered chickens. We have just babies these ducks from the day they were hatched.

Where would you even get more ducks at this time of year? I'm asking because I have no idea. My husband says he would let me. Color me surprised.

@sourland gave some very good advice if you are unable to find some. I’d suggest checking your state thread or local Craigslist. Those are two good places to check at this time of year.
