I don't name my chickens usualy but here is the exeption

Best not to name them if you plan to eat them, mine all have names, all RIR are named red, all leghorns named Lucille, there are a couple that get thier own names though....

I have a eight month old Barred rock hen, her name is Owl bait. When she was only a few months old, the evil neighbor dog came over and killed 6 chickens, she was the only one that he caught but didnt kill. He did though bite off all her tail feathers. Then a few days later an great horned owl got into the baby chicken pen and killed 5 that time. The last one the owl got was Owl bait but I got her back, minus her comb, the owl bite that half off.

Then my kids and I had to help her, she had blood dripping off her beck and in her eyes, it was a big mess. So we felt bad for her, she had a rough week. The kids would carry her a round the yard for hours, if they went for a walk they took owl bait with, play in the dirt pile, took Owl bait with, play army guys in the grass. they take Owl bait with. Now she's a big baby and yells at me if I go in the coop and dont pick her up and hold her.

So that is how I got a 1/2 eaten chicken named Owl bait.

My coop is called Coop des Fleur, so all the hens are given flower names.

and my 15 year-old stepson named the roo - Agent47! Guess they can't all match...

marlin I do the same thing None of these are for eating just for eggs. My marans are just called that, and my leghorns are called leghorns, the other delaware girls are called dellies, and the favorrels are called fav's. My glw is kinda flighting so I rarly have a chance to say anything to her. Hooligans these arent companions they are just for eggs and fun to watch.

Yep, 27, all named, plus 5 pullet chicks I still need names for that are six weeks old. Most actually know their names, believe it or not.

Roo is fryer Tuck...fryer is not miss spelled in this case...and the other 15 are just chicken..
