Good, now I dont feel like my bird is a freak. lol Im not the only one. Yeay!!
Well 10 in 7 days probably qualifies as freakish
, in a good way. If you can verify, you could be famous.
Imp-Vote for cheryl98117, she raises super hens!
I dont think we are doing anything special with them. We purchased them from a couple local feed stores in Late april of 08. They are fed pellets, oyster shells, fruits, vegis, and free range during the day. I guess they are just really happy hens.
As for verification, I wouldnt know how to go about it. At least not officially.
I must jump in here. People tend to think that chickens only lay an egg every 24 to 25 hours, which is just a wise tale I believe. When I had 8 hens I got 10 to 11 eggs a week. Human can not be the ones to judge when a chicken is going to lay an egg. I tend to believe the time is due to when the crop of the chicken is full and to me that is all determined on how much the girl eats.
The chicken eggs you buy at the store, do you think that company would be in business if the chicken only laid 1 egg a day?
Why do you think some of the place put the tube down the chickens throat? The faster the crop fills the sooner an egg forms.
I feed mine a lot of table scratch and high protein catfood daily, I get more eggs than I have laying hens pretty often.
Everyone has an opinion, but not one of us is a chicken.
You know, now that I have spent the past couple of days watching the girls. I have been noticing a patern, where ever the girls choose to spend their day, there is always at least two moles, or shrews in the general area. Ive been walking around watching for them, and have picked up over a dozen in the past two days. I'm proud of my mousing chickens, but I prefer my dogs not eat the bodys. I'm sure it wouldnt hurt them, but I would rather be careful than sorry.

You are right - but long experience can.

Absolutely. especially at 250 eggs per year or more.
Interesting notion on the full crop, though. I'll look into that...
