I dyed my eggs tonight! - UPDATED!! They're Hatching!! *GRAPHIC PIC*

I don't incubate eggs, but I learned something. I had no idea. I wondered how they got them dyed so perfectly.

(If there is even the slightest risk to the babies from this sort of procedure, I personally would not be able to attempt this.)

Everything I've read so far says it doesn't harm the babies at all, unless it's done improperly, like if you were to use dirty tools or insert the needle in too far. I did read that it can also cause some eggs to hatch late.

I am staying positive though, especially since everyone looks good still.

Isn't this illegal? I was watching animal planet (Animal Cops Detroit) and they confiscated dyed chicks from a pet store because it isn't legal there. I think it looks really neat and will be looking forward to seeing pictures. I was just curious about the legal aspect.

There were some illegal cases proven in a few states for something similair... I know you can't do it in CT maybe?! My mom said we used to get them dyed chicks at the fair as kids (ended up roosters most the time) but some states illegalized the 'sales' of these only. So it depends... I think she's ok.

Okay I was just curious. It sounds neat and I hope it turns out well for her because who wouldn't love a fuzzy pink chick!

I think it's only illegal to dye chicks for sale. Because people buy them without regard to the welfare of the bird, or knowing anything about taking care of them. Then some idiots hand colored chicks to their children to play with, like a toy.

It would seem to me it would be better to make it mandatory to provide info with the chicks when sold, and require buyers to read and sign an info sheet, and a 'responsible owner' agreement form. Then if the owners are found negligent later, they should be prosecuted.

I don't think there are any laws against tinting chicks that are not to be sold.

In order to dye a chick to a desired color, wouldn't you really need "light-colored" chicks, such as white/yellow/buff??? A black chick or certain breeds may just not look right with the coloring. Kinda like mixing black paint with pink! Just a thought!
