I dyed my eggs tonight! - UPDATED!! They're Hatching!! *GRAPHIC PIC*

Kelly,
I injected the dye about 1 half inch from the pointy end of the egg, so i guess that would be the white part. I made my hole with a needle tip that was a little bigger. I twisted it around until it broke though.

I tried using other things but the other ones busted up the shell too much, this way just kind of scraped it and moved it to the side for a clean clear hole.

I sealed the holes with a small piece of band aid 'plastic' after i was done injecting the dye...i was skeptical but obviously it worked!

Lách Cnoc Farm I don't know where ya are in W Washington but did ya know that Del's is now owned by "TSC" ?

And as for diabetic needles. I would not recommend them. They are very tiny like 30 gauge and also short. They would be very easy to break off.

I checked the eggs again, Greenie is still 'alive and kicking'...as for the other little banty egg that pipped, he was not moving at all, i touched his little beak and got nothing, i cracked the egg open a little but he was already gone, I'm not sure what happened between yesterday and this morning..no spikes or anything, maybe he just wasnt strong enough..

I know it's graphic and seems morbid but i thought i should post it for educational reasons. his yolk was almost fully absorbed so he was not even attached to the shell any longer, he also did not bleed at all when i opened it up. His color covred every part of him Very well, including feet and beak. He was neon blue on his wing tips and under his neck.

Poor baby, I'm sorry you lost him.
It's so sad to get them so close to 'full term' them lose them.
I haven't tried hatching yet, I don't have the room for more because my town only allows 3 hens, and I already have 5

Sorry didn't read the entire post but had a idea for an implement that could be used for making the hole in the egg. Years ago when I was a practicing cosmotologist we used to put charms in the tips of fingernails. You can purchase these drills at any beauty supply that is open to the public like Sally Beauty Supply. The drill is very easy to use as you just twist it between your index finger and thumb. It makes a very tiny hole that is not much bigger than the needle you would be using to inject dye. I'm thinking that this may reduce the chances of the shell cracking or breaking where you don't want it too. They can be sterilized easily. As I remember they are not very expensive either. Just a thought.
