I feel like I got away with something...

I have frost free Hose bibs but they can still be frozen and broken if the hose has water left in it. you can get a thing called a "vacuum breaker" that lets the hose drain out if its lower the bib. if the hose is left with pressure in it it won't drain and will freeze.
Myself I use a large Y fitting with shut offs on it to bleed the hose. when I shut the water off on the house outside I open the Y and let the water drain out of the un-rolled hose ( it runs slightly down hill away from the house) if I get it just right the hose never freezes. it runs right to the front of the Goose pen gate and pools out.

Yes, my hoses are frost resistant and have the Y thing too.
I was just so excited that I don't have to do 5 trips of heavy, splashing water anymore.
I started when we got our snow, and while I would have done it without complaining all winter, it is a relief to be able to skip that part.
He says next year, when I expand the duck house & chicken coop, he will run electricity and water down there for me.
Since the eggs started coming everyone on the property is MUCH more supportive.
Once the duck eggs come I know they will be even happier, then there will be baked goods of extreme deliciousness.
