I feel really sorry for this duck. How do I know it's starving??

I'm sure he's fine. I image it would be hard to stave as long as there is grass and water. He's just use to the hand outs. It is possible he can't fly but ask your neighbors how long he had been around. I think a sanctuary is the best course they will detirmine of he can fly and evaluate his overall health. Then place him as needed. You could possibly even offer to take him back as a pet if your hoa allows and he needs long term care. But getting thier help and advice would be the best step
OP stated that it could fly. I think he's just a moocher and will stay as long as people are giving him handouts. Why work for your food if it's handed to you? He has no reason to leave.

I actually did that twice already

Thats awesome!!! Hope he found it. I feel sorry for him, not just cuz of hunger but cuz hes alone

I will never again live where there is HOA. I must confess I already left chicken feed near the lake at night twice (I planned to do it only once a week but I don't plan to live here for more than 2 years what happens to him when I leave)... my heart was racing worried I would get caught LOL. I had to place it in front of the other pond and I don't even know if he ever found what I left! :( There are two ponds... one right in front of my condo and then one right where I park my car behind my condo.

If you do it againn, try to find where he sleeps and dump it by him...all black clothes...like a ninja lmao:thumbsup

I Hate to watch animals go hungry which is why i keep a 50# bag of dog feed in my trunk...strays are insane around here and ALOT are nursing, and animal control seems not to care one whit:mad:

I see him fly all the time... he will fly from the pond in front of my condo right across the tiny parking lot to the other pond as that's where he sleeps. Maybe I should wait couple more weeks... I also must confess I have been giving him a banana few times a week so it's no surprised he sits and waits and waits for handouts. I also never wanted to feed any duck more than once or twice a week for fear they would get too used to it...
Low flying is very different from the high flying wild breeds do. Ever chickens can get some lift off the gound. I swear sometimes my chickens ruin up the hill just to fly down

I live in condo on 2nd floor... I can't keep him as pet :)
The sanctuary also has strict rules that whenever you drop off an animal with them they will never be released back to you. I've rescued several injured birds during the past 20 years which I always took there... one of them was a duck from those 7 ducks that temporarily showed up here... I took the injured female to sanctuary ;) I NEVER heard back from them if she survived! =(

If I had to guess I'd say he flew at least 30 feet in the air and across the tiny parking lot... is that low flying? I own pet parrots so I'm not a newbie to birds but ducks are definitely not my expertise.

Maybe like someone here said he's just a moocher? ... but I'm still confused why he didn't leave with those 7 ducks... or I should say 6 ducks because one of them was severely injured and I took it to the sanctuary.
