Some of us, but not others. I sat on my idea for quite some time before jumping into the fray and acquiring my Call ducks. I sat on the idea for about three years or so and gave it quite a bit of thought. Other than a few trial runs of chicks in my incubators to get my feet wet with my first few hatches, Calls remain the only poultry I have had, at least for myself. I raised and/or rehabbed a few breeds of wild waterfowl as a rehabber and knew I didn't want to just jump into anything. Maybe any newbies out there considering ducks might want to go to some shows or volunteer at a waterfowl rescue to see what's out there and come to know the breeds first. We have two excellent huge shows coming up here very fast, the Crossroads of America at Indianapolis and the Ohio National in Columbus, Ohio. I believe Crossroads will host the national meet for the International Waterfowl Breeders Association this year, so there should be plenty of waterfowl there to see. Many people are saying this could be a record-breaking show for the USA, so there should be plenty to see, experience and learn there.
