I've been a lurker for a while here, never really felt like I could contribute much because I didn't have chickens, and I didn't know when I'd be getting some. Well I finally have some, thanks to an interesting little program that RENTS chickens out to people. It includes a coop (brand new, hand made here in Alabama), waterer, feeder, feed, and of course, the chickens. The rental period is six months, and at the end of that I get to decide to give everything back until next season, or pay a little more and keep them forever (I have a feeling which way I'll be going when the time comes). These are a pair of Welsummers, they don't have names yet but I've been polling my friends and family for suggestions. I'm really looking forward to this adventure, and I already know I'll need AT LEAST two more. My family eats a lot of eggs! (I'm thinking about a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and a Speckled Sussex)
I wanted to thank everyone (really!) who posts on this site. I've been reading and learning so much that even though this is a new experience for me, I feel like I have a good idea of what to expect, and I know where to go if I need help!
