I FINISHED MY QUILT! :) *Update - Mom's Reaction Pg 2*

Hi everyone - I've so missed you all - gosh been so busy

to everyone!

Well - Christmas Eve came and I saved this for the last thing Mom opened; I had a special Angel windchime made with Dad's name engraved into it - so she opened that first. Then I handed her the box and she had no idea what it was and didnt suspect because she thought DH aunt was making the quilt, so I was excited.

My brother was there as well so it made it even more special. Mom opened the box and as soon as she did, she gasped, then started to cry - which in turn, got me crying. She pulled it out and opened it up - by that time there wasnt a dry eye in the room. She was going through each tie and suit, jeans, etc - saying "I remember Daddy wearing this one" or "Is this.." such and such....

She couldnt believe I made it and wasnt expecting a quilt for at least 6 months (DH's aunt told me it would be at least that long before she could accomplish one for her - which is why I decided to attempt it myself).

I'm so glad I tried this and succeeded - it will be treasured for many years to come I know -and when I recover from this insane marathon of doing this one -I will make my siblings smaller ones for them to have keepsakes of their own.

Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way - without you all, I couldnt have done it...

Lots of hugs,
Deb

Oh Deb, That is so heartwarming that I've got tears in my eyes, too.

My father passed away almost two years ago and Ive collected his ties, a few shirts, and all his military medals and Im hoping to make a memory quilt this coming year.

I recently learned how to transfer photos onto fabric for quilting and Im going to use a photo of Dad in the center of a square. You could do that for your sibling's quilts.

If not, that's o.k. I can just picture then scene in my mind of how you are all sobbing and hugging one another as I am sure your Dad would have wanted it.

So glad you worked so hard on it.

Your quilt is beautiful. I can't believe this was your first quilt attempt, sure wouldn't know it. Your moms reaction was heartwarming. I'm glad you were able to get it done for her.
