I forget how stressful this pea egg time is! Is it for you, too?

I also free range, every year in the fall say I'm not doing it anymore. Until Spring. Mine have just started laying in their open pens. But it is still cold here (30's) an we have snow on the ground (northwestern MN). I have picked up three eggs, am not sure how much cold the eggs can handle before they are infertile? Does anyone know? I have three hens missing tonight, they are probably laying their eggs in a snowbank!

Is it a steady 30 degree or does it warm up? i had a duck start laying and ended up hatching out all 19 eggs she layed, i contribute the high hatch rate because the weather kept dipping down to freezing a few times a week which helped keep the eggs freah till she started sitting, i believe as long as the eggs do not freeze inside they will be fine.

P-Dawg makes that sound when he tries to mount my foot, the cat, the dog, the towel and the shovel. Very silly peas!

If it's anything like here in Northern ND, the 30's is the HIGH for the day, so it cools down instead of warming up. We had one day that made it to 43, but mostly highs are in the 28 - 33 range. Lows have gone to single digit, but mostly in the lower 20s.

I love ducklings!!!

Wished you lived closer i would hook you up with all them ducklings, the momma was so overwelmed trying to keep up with all of them that she gave up and did not care where they were, i would find them sitting in their little group waiting for her to come by.. so i penned them up with the other babies, i forgot how messey baby ducks are in a pen

, will be moving the pen ASAP afteri cut them loose.

This year my cock has a beautiful long tail and has been shaking he's tail feathers for everyone chickens/ducks/ he's peahen. He's been calling like crazy as well. My question is if there breeding should I have seen them breed?
