I don't know what's gotten into my male muscovy but tonight when I let him out he came at me...I thought he was just playing the first time until he bit my arm and flapped his wings trying to take flesh, he's nipped before but this was the first time he flapped his wings at me...I tried to walk away but he came back at me, I caught him by his neck and used my other hand to press him into the ground letting him know I'm bigger and the boss...That ticked him off more, when I let go, he jumped and flew at my head until I swatted him to the ground...I regrabbed him, more thinking of what the heck to do, and tried to throw him as far as I could so I could get away, i didn't want to hurt him but didn't know what to do...He kept coming and I was walking backwards trying to keep him on the ground but he tried to fly up to my head again...I grabbed his neck in midair and fell back in a pile of broken rocks as I flung him to the side...I tried to get up and all I saw was a white cape trying to cover my head and face, instinctively swatted and managed to knock him to the side as I fell into another pile of broken rocks...I managed to get in the house but I'm tore up from the rocks...Now I'm sitting here in pain, and very sad about the whole thing, not knowing how to handle him...The pain in my hands, back and arms tells me to prepare dinner but I can't, he's my baby and there's just something I'm not getting in their behavior...We used to let them free range every evening but after tonight, that may have to end...I'm wide open to tips on handling attacking ducks, I figure I got hurt, I may as well learn something from it...

i felt like you were in a scary movie when i read this!!!

well... it is mating season (i've had a cranky drake too, he used to be my buddy but he's not as bad as yours) do you have females for him?? that could be the best solution!! other than that, keeping him locked up till mating season is over

Mating season. :lol:My ducks are all going crazy right now. Not quite THAT crazy, but crazy. My appleyard/khaki cross keeps attacking all of us. He thinks he's tough. I imagine after mating season is over, he'll be your buddy again.

I am so sorry to this happened to you. I am sure it was scary. Could you try and carry him around securely, but not to secure (you know, let him breath) It works sometimes for roosters, I have no idea if it would work for ducks.

My husband was severely attacked by a duck as a child. He to this day still gets nervous around adult ducks. I was hoping that if he fed and played with the ducklings, they would grow up to be nice ducks. Your incident scares me a bit. Do you have any idea why your duck would start doing this now? Is it just coming into adulthood? Male hormones?

I am of no help, sorry. I just hope you get to the bottom of his actions, ducks can really physically hurt a person.

This video would have gone viral if it was captured...

He has a female(they are all 4-5mths old) he shares with another muscovy and I didn't know they get that way during this time, see, I knew I'd learn something[the hard way, story of my life], keeping them penned up is definitely on tap as I can't use my hands too well now, hunting and pecking with the 3 that don't hurt now...I have to admit, it was a little scary as I held him down looking at those claws trying to formulate a plan to avoid those until I figure out what's going on...I told the wife she can put them away tonight, they like her...BTW, do they know the difference between us, they sure seem to know as our female Khaki lays down wanting to mate with me but nips the wife...

Maybe you need some more girlfriends for him. 2 drakes and 1 duck might be part of the problem.

I have some on the way from a Muscovy Rescue, 4 BEAUTIFUL female muscovy, at NO charge to me at all. Richard Ruby... ducks836@gmail. I don't know how far you are from The Carolina's though.

Very Bad Drake/Hen ratio. You need to rehome that drake, have him for dinner or get 6 more hens. You want a minimum of 3 hens for a Scovy drake and you can easily have up to 10. In your drakes eyes, YOU are competition for that poor hen. I feel for the poor hen!

Wow! He sounds like a nasty duck! I dont know if i'd keep him..
My Blue swede drake is fiesty too right now..but all he does is follow you around and pull on your jeans... he cant harm a bug..
