I found a chicken

My guess is at two or so years they are sent to slaughter, maybe 2.5 if they start laying kind of late in life as many heavier birds to. Hey, if you try to hatch those eggs of hers, maybe you'd get some big meat birds and can report on how differently the commercial commercial strains grow vs the publicly available commercial strains.

Glad to here it came out so well. If it came from an egg house heading to slaughter, and from your area that's what I'm guessing, they change them out at 20-24 months. At least that is the schedule in the egg houses that I deliver feed to. Keep up the good work with her and Have a blessed day.

Ok thanks guys. I know this is an odd problem for a broiler but she doesn't seem to be eating. I'm thinking it's because she isn't used to the food bowls and type of food i'm giving her. I've offered both pellets and crumble and she hasn't really eaten much yet. She drinks plenty though. Any suggestions?

So glad she's drinking!

Re: food, probably will have to experiment with choices to see what clicks to get her started. In addition to the good suggestions above, here's a few things that could possibly peak her interest (not a main diet - usually just supplementary - but maybe could help her "come around"):

- scrambled egg (if you have Avia Charge 2000, sprinkle a little in after the egg is cooked - I also cook the egg mixed with the oat flakes from instant oatmeal, since my feathered friends won't touch plain oatmeal) - I don't give the egg terribly often as I think the protein is probably high but for her, and with these other things mixed in, not a bad meal at the moment,

- little cut up pieces of tomato or grape or apple (mine love all 3 as well as other fruits and veggies. my hen goes crazy for mashed warm butternut squash)

- little pieces of good quality multi grain bread (but not too much because of the likely amount of salt in the bread)

- sunflower seeds - usually well loved, adored and coveted!

Unless she has an internal injury affecting her ability/desire to eat, odds her she'll come around soon and in the meantime, that she is drinking is saving the day. She'll probably be okay. Thank you again for rescuing her!!.

Wow great read. I am so happy she's better now and enjoying life rather then being brought to a slaughter house

. She looks like a wonderful little girl with so much life left. I know the hard reality is that many of them go to such a fate and maybe she could sense it and wanted to get out. You just never know. You did a fantastic job making her well again and believe me..they know when you help them. They can sense those things and I am sure she will forever be indebted for you stopping to pick her up.
