Ok so i found a pigeon that got hit by a car.i brought it home It is walking and can fly around it's cage now. Ive only had it for a few days. It is a female and had a mate before i got it. Then recently i saw a hawk kill the male. I was wondering if i could put her with my male pigeon and if they would breed. I already put them together once but she wants nothing to do with him. How long will it take before she will want to pair with him and forget her old mate. And can i just leave them to it and they'll sort it out. Or do i have to separate her for a while. Thanks in advance!

You are putting your ♂ bird at risk by taking in a feral. I hope it works out for you. Sometimes they are more heart ache then what they are worth if they have disease. Plus it is a huge X factor when it comes to breeding.

Im not worried about my male bird because he is also a feral that i got 6 months ago. I found him in a parking lot and he couldnt fly but hes ok now. But thank you anyway :)

One of my best homers was in fact a feral (I was unable to race him because of that however).

why could you not race him? Did you have to tell the them he was a feral... how could they tell if you told them you bred him in your loft?
All homers that race must be banded at birth (or within about 8 days) with a solid band that can never be removed by a National Pigeon Racing Federation in your area or country. They may have made exceptions to this rule now as I have been out of that seen for nearly 5 decades. (I doubt it for some reason.) It is a dead sport in my area now to my knowledge.

As the pigeon develops into an adult it is impossible to slip the band off.

They should get on fine. just give male a nest first, n keep female in cage next to or in males if its big. in week to month she will come around n see him trying to show her his nest. etc. then when she shows interestput her in with him n he should chare n herd her around till she gets exausted n stays in nest n or allows him to mount her. Most love is not as beautiful always as most hope to imagine at very least at first. lol
