I always had a weird chicken in my coop. She has shanks like a rooster and was very feisty. And know I know why... She turns out to be a RED JUNGLEFOWL. If you don't know this flightless bird originated in Southeast Asia and are part of the genus Gallus of the family Phasianidae. Pretty much they are the ancestors of chickens. More about this in this video made a great Youtuber.
. Anyway this had no point but I was shocked.

I had a Red Jungle Hen some years ago. They are not quite flightless. There are actually varieties that were able to fly over water from Island to Island. (not far distances BTW) Only breed known to do such.
Can you post a pix of your chicken.

I would love to see a picture also. How exciting!

That's where my skepticism was headed.
Couple problems with doing that is that Google images is really good at showing pics as certain breeds that they really aren't.
But the bigger issue is that the red jungle fowl is the ancestor to all chicken breeds and their pattern as well as many of their features are seen in many different breeds.
Those breeds are also far more common then true RFJ so odds are if someone has a bird that looks like a RJF that it is almost always not really one.

Sumatras and Javas are best known for that since they come from Islands. Although today’s Javas are probably a bit heavy to fly as far as the first ones discovered on Java.
