This will going to be my first time raising a chicken and i am trying my best to learn what are the right and proper ways to raise them. I put them in my shoe box and bought feeds. They keep crying but whenever i hold them, they'll stop immediately. I honestly don't know what to do coz I got to go to school so I won't be able to hold them everyday. One chick is already eating but the other one still don't and just keep crying. 😩 They're so tiny and thought that they still need their momma to keep them warm and all. But I don't know what else to do coz i saw them on top of my dog's cage, crying and all. So I picked them up coz I can't see their mom and other siblings plus my dog's keep barking and trying to get them. As of now, they're already sleeping. I also got them a bulb that will keep them warm. Suggestions and advise are highly appreciated, Thank you so much.

Hi there,
They need warmth, about 85 degrees.
What feed do you have?
You might want to find someone to take them since your schedule will make it hard and they need a lot of care. they double in size every week and need a brooder box to fit for all those stages. And they'll need a coop outside for when they're adults. Chickens are expensive to set up for but once you have it, it's much easier.

The shoe box is a bad idea, the need a bigger box with heat, and they need to see the food to eat the food. They need access to the food all day long. And water.

Hi, guys! I've read all your comments and Thank you so much for all the advice. Just an update: I already transferred them to a bigger box and ordered a heating lamp (will prolly arrive in a day or two) but for the mean time I used a hot water bottle. (Thanks @Sussex19 for the suggestion!) And I am currently working on for their brooder box and their coop. Kind of hard to gather all the materials since nursing school is quite expensive but I'm working on it. Will update again soon! Thank you so much ❤️

I'm glad I could help.
Are both chicks eating now? I found jar lids worked well for both food and water when I had some chicks in a brooder. (while they were small, that is)
For a make shifted brooder, a large plastic storage box with the lid off works quite well.
Any photos are very welcome!

Hey guys! Here's an update you didn't ask for haha. I just thought that because some of you became part of me raising my 2 baby chicks, you must know what have been happening to them. And I am sorry guys for I am to bring some bad news. 😔 Sadly, one chick died. I really don't know what happened but I woke up one morning and saw that sasha (named his/her that even though I still don't know the gender ✌️) was struggling to stand. Don't want to eat and drink and that she can't or won't open her eyes even though she's not asleep. Afternoon came and she passed away. On the other hand, Chim-chim (her sibling) remains super active and healthy. But I noticed that he became suddenly noisy. He keeps crying (which is new since he is usually quiet) maybe looking for her sister. 😔 My uncle who happens to have a mother hen whose eggs are newly hatched, told me that we can try put chim chim there and make it look like the mother hen is his mother. We tried and it worked! Now, Chim-chim is already in his Day 2 with his new Mom and siblings. They told me I can have him back when he's truly ready and can handle being alone. I agreed because honestly, since Sasha died, I started to doubt myself about raising Chim-chim. I don't want to lose him so I agreed. Plus they're far more knowledgeable and experienced in raising farm animals than me. Sorry guys for a long update 😅 Also, for the wrong grammars. English is not really my first language. Thank you again for this community. I promise to update you again with Chim-chim's recent photo, soon!

Attached is their pic when I tried to put a hot water bottle with them. Ps. the position of the bottle in this pic is just temporary since I am still trying to find the best position that will work and is safe for them. The cream colored one is Sasha and the brown one is Chim-chim.
