I gave my chickens today...........................................

Broccoli stems chopped up, spinach leaves (all our green/brown grass is covered with white) BOSS. I had to tend to some slightly frost bit wattles on our Roo so he got a bit of Cherry Greek yogurt as a special treat in the warm house while I cleaned and greased him up. His oatmeal stuck to his wattles yesterday in single digit weather and he got a bit nipped on those areas. Oh the things I do for my feathered lovelies......

In the winter I give mine some cooked lentil soup mix (one of my hens is a total pig and eats a ton of it:) I also keep a big piece of beef suet out in their pen for them to peck at. I give mine scratch grains in the morning.

I don't seem to my give my chickens enough. How many chickens do you have? I just want to know how much your feeding them. I have 6 chickens and they are 5 months old.

I have three hens. I have a bucket that is always full so they can eat it when they want. With the scratch grains i just give them a handful

Today, I threw out the turkey carcass from Thanksgiving. They jumped on it like piranha. It's always fun to watch one grab a piece of whatever and instead of helping themselves to more, they all have to have that one.

I have 25 chickens and 2 turkeys. I use up to 100 lbs of layer and 50 lbs of scratch grain. I started making fermented feed and have cut my use in half. Don't know if that helps.

whats the deal with fermented feed and how do you make it, i want to cut consumption and costs this winter.

Thanks.

I don't make it. I get it from Alaska mill and feed. Well I live in alaska. But I bet you could get the feed from a feed store around you. But also if there is a tack shop around you they normally have chicken feed and chicken supply. I got a chicken heater and a feeder from my tack shop. So you can try that. ( I really like going there beacause I want a horse.)
