I get my first chicks on Thursday! - Now with chicks and pictures!

I got mine as 6-week-olds and they'd already been handled a lot -- I sat and read next to the brooder so they could get used to me, then picked them up by basically scooping them up with my palms under their feet and being careful to keep my hands level. Then I sat and read with a chick on my lap for about an hour each, after they'd calmed down and destressed from the move. I noticed that if you stroke their backs without paying much attention to it, they doze off. The smaller buff liked to find the high ground, which apparently was my left breast, haha. The white and the larger buff didn't get to sit on me while I read, but the blue splash did for about two hours. She fell asleep on me. It was so cute!

I know which of my chickens layed which egg no matter where they lay the eggs. Each of my chickens eggs are differently shaped. Dots are really long and Dopey's eggs are nearly round. My Betsy's eggs are longer but rounder than Dot's eggs and Addidas's eggs are browner and biggest. The wyandottes I thought would all have similar eggs but like I said they are all different. Don't worry you will know unless you have 50 or so layers maybe. That is how I know too as to whom is holding out or going broody.

Enjoy your babies! Beautiful all !
Caroline
