I give up.... buying a pre-fab

Wow.. those Jamaican Cottages are gorgeous!!! and WAAAAY outta my price range. Yeah... looking on ebay/Craigslist for something more in the $200/$300 range.

I was emailed privately that some of the cheaper prefabs are not great after about a year of use. I would love to hear of anyone's experience with them. Any particular brand/company to stear clear of?

Try looking at www.thegardencoop.com for two different coop plans which are reasonably priced. The plans are very easy to follow. I've seen the finished product and a friend of mine built one without any issues. I would agree with the advice about many pre-fabs being cheap and of poor quality. If you like the plans, but don't have the time to build it yourself, you can always hire a handyman to build it for you. That's a great way to get a good coop and perhaps helps someone who might be out of work.

How about taking plans or talking to a shop teacher at a high school. It would be a nice project for a middle or high school class. I'm sure all you would have to do is supply the materials and the plans. Heck, maybe if you tell the teacher what you are looking for that could also be a class project. It's just a thought.
