I Got 2 Free Incubators!!!!!! (How do I clean them?)

Use the age old food service cleaning method Wash Rinse Sanitize.

Get a bucket of soapy water and give them a good scrubbing this will get the grease dust etc. Rinse with clear water to get rid of the soap, then sanitize with a quite diluted solution of bleach. About two hundred parts per million. It is about a cap full per gallon of water. Or in other words the solution will smell mildly of bleach but not be overpowering.

Let the bleach solution air dry.

This is the proven method of cleaning and sanitation for all food service plants, some use quatanery ammonia but many use this bleach method. \\\\

Wash
Rinse
sanitize.

Thank you thank you thank you Chicken32!!!

Greathorse, thank you SOOOO much- soap AND bleach makes the most sense, never hurts to be too careful, right?

ANYway, it's damp and NOT sunny today- can I leave it out on my lawn to dry? Be patient and wait for a sunny day? This is one of the few days I have free time, so it's today or wait 'til next month.

Thanks, BYC!

You don't need a turner. You can hand turn the eggs. I just fill my hovabators and turn the eggs by rolling them gently under my hand a few times a day with my freshly washed hands... so far, so good. SCORE!!!

I am glad his site is back up looks like it has been revamped a bit. If he cant help you no one can. If you catch him in a good mood he will tell you everything you need to know about these bators.

I have had some great conversations with him.

You are very welcome!
Another way you can turn them...is to put something under the incubator on one side...then when it is time to turn it...carefully take the object out from underneath it...and put it on the other side....that worked great for me and I never interfered with the humidity or temps...

I got two of those older brower incubators last year, cleaning them with mild soap and diluted bleach worked out very well.

I have two of these that were sitting in my garage for about 15 years. I used a antibacterial dishsoap, then 2% bleach solution to disinfect. then rinsed in very hot water.

Great catch!

In another life I was a nurse practitioner. The medical cleaning ratio of chlorine bleach to water is 1 TBS bleach to one quart water. Supposed to kill anything needs killing in a medical lab, including viruses.
