I got a box from alaska - quail

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain, you just made me fall in love with bobwhite quail.
How did that coturnix get into the glass?
and how much space do they need? (brood)

Have you raised quail before? They are like cockroaches! Small and fast.. Faster than any chick, duckling, gosling, peachick, or keet I've ever seen! Adam and I were both amazed at how fast the little buggers zoom!

Nope. I'm sure they run even faster than my lazy ol' Coturnix..

Hi Asher~ It depends on the number of eggs... up to about 50 eggs can go in a small flat rate box, so it would be $6 +10 s/h for 40+any extras ($0.15/egg). Once my girls are ALL laying I am hoping to be able to offer more at a time, and the shipping would go up to $12.50. Right now I'm getting between 30 and 40 eggs a week, and a week is the longest I'll hold them before shipping. I ship on Mondays only, to make sure I don't hit the weekend... Tuesdays only if Monday is a holiday.

All of my quail are split into two small colonies, with the exception of my silver/white trio. Those I'm keeping pure and separate. But there are many different beautiful combinations in there. Very colorful, and vibrant.

No, to all those questions. My guineas where like the rats in the comcast hi speed commercial. I have no clue about these quail.

Question. If I buy the small 1/2 x 1 inch wire for building your own rabbit cages, once the quail are larger can i make a pen out of that for them?

I think that wire would work fine, it would keep my Coturnix in, but then again I have a Giant sized quail.. So I would take someone else's opinion on that..

We had a power outage last night, and I lost 2 bobs to the cold stress...

Then I looked in my Button brooder, and there was one, all stretched out looking stiff and cold...

... then it JUMPED up and zipped all over the place! It was just sleeping. I cussed it out and told it not to do that anymore. I swear my heart skipped a beat.

Ticks... the food was almost gone in the morning, and the little tyke had crawled in through the head-hole and up into the glass... I knew Kim would appreciate it!!!

The bobwhites need just a little more room and they like a more desert setting. I have my breeding pair in a 4x4' pen, with shavings and a deep pan for sand. There's a branch in there for them, but I never see them on it.
