Willow's Meadow :
ummm he's drinking out of a pool? I can't tell you eveything about horses in 10 words!!!!!! Why did you get this horse? Horses ARE NOT like chickens, you can't just join a forum, read a few books and go out and buy a horse!!! You NEED to get a vet!!!! A vet can tell you EVERYTHING!!!! He can tell you what kind of hay and grain to give him, and how much. He can tell you what kind of wormers and supplements to give him and how much. You also need a farrier and a vet. If you plan to ride him you'll need a saddle, bridle, girth, saddle pad and grooming supplies. You should also find a good trainer they can help you with learning how to ride and how to properly care for your horse, train him and deal with any behavioral issues. Also a trainer usually won't come out to your house like a vet will, unless you have an arena. So you need to buy a trailer. So you can take your horse to lessons. And they are exspensive!! You also need wood shavings for his stall, fresh water(perferably in a BUCKET), feed, buckets, stall mats(please do not let a horse stand on a cement floor in his barn VERY bad for his joints), a hose, a halter, lead rope, a window in the stall......you have a stall right?
So have fun with your new horse. I'm not trying to bring you down or discourage you from owning a horse. But I have seen WAY too many neglected horses simply because the owners don't know how to properly care for him. A lot of them don't have vets. So please find a good vet. Horses are wonderful animals who do need a lot of care, but they earn there keep trust me!!!! Have fun!
Oh well! Another reply from some one that doesn't chck the date or make an effort to study the evolution of the thread.
But no sweat.
I guess next time I update I will start a new thread.
Trailer--- We are now looking for a stock trailer large enough to trailer my tractor when needed and the horse. Well, not at the same time. Use it to haul tractor when needed. Use it to haul horse when needed. Rather than have a small utility trailer + stock/horse trailer + large transport trailer.
Training. My wife and I have made the decission to have Cody trained at a local stable. 1-1/2 miles from the house, he will live there while in training. In this case the stable is actually close enough and if needed I could walk him their, with a couple phone calls seeking permission to cross a few properties.
Yes! I know about expenses, if I didn't have the resourses I would not have got a horse.
