I got a question for you guys...

I have a border collie and he is wonderful! We have horses and he herds them up for us. Border collies are very intelligent and I think they are lovey too:D I would not own any other breed of dog. Oh, and he is very good with my chickens....doesn't try to get them or stir them up, same with my geese. He will lay "guard" them:D

I don't know if this helps or not, but I watched a program once on television where they were training border collies to herd using ducks instead of sheep, so maybe it could work!

I'm in a stock dog club and my advise is a border collie. I don't currently own one (I own a red heeler right now- which I don't recommend because of their high prey drive and the fact that they drive instead of gather). But I've actually seen border collies herd chickens and ducks and know it can be done. HOWEVER, I know that the time investment into doing this is huge! I train my dogs to heard cattle and we begin on goats. I have a lot of time into my dogs just to be able to do this so-so. I would recommend seeing if there was a stock dog club in your area so you could get advice on training from people there who do it all the time. Herding dogs have the instincts in their heads, but unless you are a team with them, it can be very frustrating and sometimes messy. Hope that helps.

got two geese dumped off at my house today, I was going to eat them but I'll see how it goes. I might as well give the goose thing a try...
