yes ideal is in texas and i will not be using them again! - i asked them in an email over the phone and on the order form - no males - i guess they needed to be visited in person and asked also!

also they got my order wrong and when i called up to query they said they will not accept any chicks back. plus 17??!! that is just ridiculous, i cant help thinking they just wanted to have a clear out

Sounds about right on the 17...I received 18 last March when I ordered mine. I didn't expect them either. Though I didn't be ask for them not to be included because I wasn't aware they added them in the first place. I only ordered 10 chicks and when I opened the box there were 28 in there. Out of the 18 they sent I received 7 pullets as peanuts. All were barred rocks.

I knew because you can usually sex barred rocks by the time they get their first feathering...Males are lighter than females. Plus I used the "dot method" where they have a large yellow dot of down on their heads if they are one sex and the dot is smaller if they are the other. I found the method on here and don't remember which was which. I was right even with the dot method, but waiting a week for some feathers made my "guess" 100% correct. I then rehomed some of the roos chicks and kept the rest til they were a 14wks old and rehomed them to a guy that ate them. He didn't have the means to raise them up himself but he paid me $9 a roo so I wasn't complaining.
