I got carried away on ebay!

200 quail and all those chicken eggs hatched. They are the start of my bantam EE flock. Here they are mostly feathered http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v244/aqh88/chickens/EEs/bantam/ . 1 or 2 hens have started laying sky blue little eggs and I hatched a few but I have no idea which roo they were with or which hens it was. I think some are part serama. Blue laying seramas?

Those are too cute! I'm gonna have to start sitting on my hands to keep from fussing over my eggs too much. Luckily they are in a spare room so they are a little "out of sight out of mind." Okay, I know quail are quite cute, but what do you do with 200!

Okay, day 13 and I candled to weed out the non viable eggs. One set of eggs were sent packed in an egg crate with 6 extras (one dozen ordered), one arrived cracked and 6 now clear eggs. Two other sets of eggs came packed individually, 2 each of those are clear. I took them out of the bator and am deciding to open them.... but will they stink? I don't mind doing some research but I don't want to be gagging either LOL! Some of them I can see something floating freely around -yolk maybe? All the others I can see definite darkness filling most of the egg and they feel heavy. Is that just my mind? I was able to see movement in them on day 7 - I didn't want to leave the bator open too long tonight.

I'm hoping for a good hatch of the remaining Dominques and Light Brahmas! Nervously waiting for 24 peeps

Is my math okay? I put my eggs in the bator on Wed the 28th. So Thurs would be day 1. Sunday would be day 18 and the day I should take the turner out, put up the humidity. When do I open the top plugs on my hoverbator? Help and then

! There is a new monthly livestock auction for all poultry, sheep and goats, hogs and small cattle starting next wednesday. Hopefully I can meet other local chicken peeps and market my extras. I need to keep down the number of roosters as My neigbors don't mind the perfume from the horses but the crowing may start to irritate them LOL! I guess that's another thread! I've got the bator fever!

Okay! Lockdown time! I may have to put duck tape on the bator to keep nosey folks out! I'm almost done reading the internet what else can I do to keep busy?

My first pip! Bottom row second from the left! I can't get the camera in well enough to get a pic.... today is day 20... question - my humidity is 55%. I've got an inch of water in the sponge dish and it still won't go any higher. Is is worth opening up the incubator to put another dish and sponge in?

I can't help with your question(s) at all. I don't even know why I'm READING the Incubating & Hatching Eggs forum. But yesterday I caught myself looking at an incubator and egg turner at the feed store for no particular reason. I have 8 chicks from 8 wks to 4 wks old and eight is the maximum number of chickens I should own. Mine aren't even out of the brooder full time yet!

Darn you and your eggscitement, Painted Spirit!

I must resist, I must resist, I must resist. Don't need eggs for anything other than food.
