I got my babies!

I introduced myself here about a month ago, waiting for my chicken accommodations to be finished. They are, and I am now the proud momma of five Jersey Giant pullets, although, to be honest, if one of them is a rooster I don't mind, they're beautiful birds.

I had planned on getting Rhodies, because that's what we had many years ago, but there weren't any at the store, so I whipped the phone out for a quick web search as decided these would be good too. I want them for eggs and pets, nobody is going to end up in the pot, even if they quit laying.

While they aren't what I planned for, I'm already sure they will be better birds for my purposes. They're big, so predators will be less likely to mess with them and they're said to be docile, which I'd prefer as pets. This is exciting!
How cool! Jersey Giants are one of the breeds I want one day. They are supposed to be very docile and calm. I think they will make you great pets! You will definitely get a lot of enjoyment with them.

I've started taking them out and holding them, one at a time. They're in my living room, in a plastic tote (I have cats), since it's been cool here for the past week or so. I'll start taking them outside for a few minutes now that it's going to be warm now. Florida weather is so weird...

Their size, good laying, and their demeanor is why I decided to get them. They'll be bigger than any aerial predators we've got around here, even the occasional bald eagle. The only thing I'm worried about is a stray dog, which is also why I'm sort of hoping that one of them turns out to be a rooster. There's a 10% chance, according to the sign at the store. ;-)
