I got my first chicks!!! (PICS)

I have done alot of research on Araucanas as I am getting my Araucana chicks in April. Araucanas are not something you can get from a hatchery or feed store. All of those selections are going to be EE. As I understand it when Araucana have chicks some will be rumpless some not some could have 1 tuft or none...Very unusual and highly prized to get a rumpless, double tufted Araucana. EE's are a mutt with the Araucana gene to produce a colored egg. Americana is an actual breed, basically a tufted tailed Araucana. Alot of breeding and culling goes into getting a good specimen of Araucana. Most people get EE labeled as Americana or Araucanas not knowing the difference. Look up pics of true Araucanas. They are a VERY impressive bird! Hope this info is helpful.

Ameraucanas and Araucanas are not availiable from hatcheries (with the exception of MyPetChicken in regard to the ameraucana only to my knowledge) or feed stores. And yes, the feed stores tell you they have Ameraucanas, Araucanas, or -oh horrors- Americanas. That's what the hatcheries tell them. They have Easter Eggers.

Ameraucanas are an APA recognized breed with blue to blue green eggs, and have muffs, beards and tails. They have pea combs, slate legs, i think 8 recognized colors and breed true. Rare and pricey... like $126 for a dozen nice hatching eggs.

Araucanas are an APA recognized breed with blue to blue green eggs, and have tufts, and are rumpless- no tails. The tufting gene is lethal. Chicks with two copies die in their shells. It also seems difficult to get two even tufts, one on each side. Yet rarer and more expensive.

Easter Eggers are mutts bred from Ameraucanas for improved egg production. They can be any color, often have pea combs, muffs, beards and willow or green legs. They may lay blue, green, 'pink', or brown eggs.

Hope I got that right!!!!
