I GOT MY FIRST CHICKS!!!!

... i already have been spoiling them!!!:lau:gig they have had 2 small earthworms, ton of mealworms, greens, REALLY high quality feed, sugar water and some baby grasshopers... i don't have any apples, but i will get some next time we go into town!:lau:gig laws of physics, if they are mine... THEY ARE SPOILED! you should see my buttons!!! even sometimes if they aren't mine they are spoiled! i go over and feed my neighbors chickens mealworms!:gig:lau
do they have regular water and sugar water? Too much sugar water isn't great for them. Wow, though, thats a lot of treats for them! :) they will be healthy with such a varied diet :)

I assume you’re giving them grit if they are getting all that other stuff, and that their chick starter is most of their diet. Treats are just that, not a diet but a treat. They shouldn’t be given too often even to adults, let alone chicks with immature digestive systems. Clean fresh water is better for them than sugar water....sugar water is used for weak, stressed, or ill chicks and if given constantly can lead to diarrhea and dehydration.

Cute chicks. Your enthusiasm just leaps off your posts. But I would caution a little scaling back....you’ll have them for the rest of their lives and there is no need to overwhelm with everything at once.

thanks, yes they have grit, yes they are mostly on chick starter, yes i only gave them a tiny bit of sugar water,

PLEASE put a WIRE TOP over your brooder. A plastic top with a couple little holes poked through will not give them enough air.
I DO NOT HAVE THAT OVER THEM!!!! i only have that sitting there because i used a pre used box that had previously been used for storage, i cleaned it and i would NEVER put that as their lid!!!

Great advice!:thumbsup i rescued my buffs & Americana's from a TERRIBLE feed store. they were in BAD shape and that is the only reason i gave them a little, i also gave them some Nutri-drench. when i got them home they had REALLY bad pasty butt and wouldn't stand up, they just layed there so i picked them up and helped them drink, they are running around now! hope they all make it!
