Yep, if you can hang a ring off it, it counts as a point in our neck of the woods

Congratulations. It really is a great buck. As sourland said above...here in NY that would also be a 6 pointer. I guess you don't count the two brow tines?

According to Boone & Crocket scoring the brow tines have to be over an inch. On this deer it depended on which side you measured them on. One side they were right at an inch the other not. Sharon missed before so hopefully this will take the jitters out next year. I was bragging at work today.... "My wife the killer" lol

Steve

You have every right to be proud. My son shot his first buck this year on opening day. A dandy 4 pointer. I was so proud also. Here is his pic.

Thank you everyone. Made a big pot of chili and took it into work today. Not too much of it left at the end of the day.

To add to calls reply, you cannot tell a deers age by his antlers, or points. Deer are generally aged by looking at their teeth, wear etc.

You can also get a good idea on the maturity of a deer by the body shape and size. The bodies get heavier and faces and necks get longer as they age vs a fawn that is very compact and square.

Congratulations on the nice buck Sands!
