i got my FR's today!

Well, I get between $15-$20 per bird at the farm market. I profit about $3 per bird if I'm lucky. I raise them simply because I enjoy eating them, and being able to sell them to others somewhat subsidizes my chicken eating. It's sad, really. But, I make as much selling 3 dozen eggs as I do a whole meat chicken. ><

most people that sell at the markets here in houston get $4 a doz. but then you have to understand they cater to those who will pay that. and part of that $4 is overhead of leasing the space for the weekends.

$3.50 per dozen. Feed prices are wacky, though, so I may be adding 10% to that to cover the market mark-up.

If I drive them to Seattle, I charge $4/dozen.

It is?? How would I find that info? I do sell plants and vegetables from a stand in my front yard. I checked with the city and they said I could sell anything I grew without a license but that was before we had chickens.

i know here in my area, as long as you grew them (including eggs) you are allowed to sell them at the stands. so you can't take your neighbors eggs and sell them with your eggs. does that make sense?

Yes, that's pretty much how I interpreted it too.

Have you tried feeding your fr's anything other than the crumbles? I gave them some lettuce this morning and they had no clue what it was and didn't even attempt to eat it. That surprised me because when our layers were that age, they ate ANYTHING. Seems like if it isn't in the feeder, they won't touch it.
