I got my hens to start laying agin...

So, this summer my chix when into their molt, stopped laying for the most part and then daylight hours decreased this fall and they took the winter off. (all but a few).
Yesterday was a nice sunny day, so I let them out of the coop/run into our fenced in back yard. The LOVED free ranging, something they do often spring through fall. After a few minutes of being outside, two of my girls went into the coop and laid two beautiful eggs.

Hopefully we are on to something!!!

The increasing daylength is helping too.

Today, after MANY MONTHS of no eggs from all but one of the chickens, my last holdout of the moulters laid and egg today, not until after she announced she was going to do it for quite a long time! The others started laying the last two weeks....FINALLY, beautiful eggs again!

mine too! 11 to 14 a day,20 hens had ben getting 2 to 4 a day all winter

I want eggs!!! I had one that went into molt in nov. and another that just started about 2 wks ago. And the others have been on strike I keep hoping, looking and grumbling. I have let them free range to their little hearts delight and giving them x-tra greens, protein but I am now going to go on strike no more x-tra treats for them until I see an egg

Set out the crockpot and hatchet.... just a little subliminal message can sometimes kick 'em in gear!

I suspect that it was time for them to start laying again anyhow. The days are getting longer and we will soon be up to 14 hours of daylight again. That being said, sunshine and fresh air is good for every living creature.

I have several young hens that have not started laying yet, but got my first egg from a brown leghorn hen - the rooster was so worried that he went in the roost with her during the day to watch out and listen to her bellow!

i kept having nice little chats with my girls, telling them i will bring 'good' treats if they start laying again!!!
just so happy the started laying again.
cannot wait to check the nest box today!!!
