I got some meat rabbits!

in Middelburg Pa there is a rabbit breeder Look up Waltz's Flemish Hoppers they have nice stuff hers is all purebred no sure of the mileage from there but it is going toward Lewistown if that rings a bell for you I bought my Champaign from there and her prices are not that bad for a breeder. She has some pretty big rabbits too.

I just mapped this 3 hrs. away from you But it is worth the weekend drive beautiful country views and antique shops I made it a day when I went. And I got the rabbit I wanted .

I started out with some NZ/Cali crosses but I got out of crosses and got into Pedigreed Champagne D'Argents and Silver Foxes. I need to get a tattoo pen for my SF because I have 3 weaned kits that need to either be sold or will go to freezer camp. I love my bunnies, they are delicious (lol). I think I'll get in a couple of breedings before the cold hits.

I just got my first campaign de argent so pretty He's only 5 months old and I am Looking for a doe They are so hard to find here . He is Pedigreed also I cant wait to get one and breed him. The breeder I got him from hopefully will call when she gets a new litter and sells her doe crossing my fingers for that one. She shows hers I just se mine for meat. If I can't find one I am breeding it with my Cali that might be a fun mix.

Where are you from? I am breeding my 2 does next month.

I'm going to go look at nzw today from the guy we're getting a pregnant doe from in a few weeks & building the rabbit hutch and grow out areas today cuz we have our 24 year old 6'8" son to help today!

What should I look for in good does and bucks? I'm trying to get a californian doe and get a stud to service her from the place I get her, and taking a buck of each does litter to breed onto the doe not it's mother. I'm in CO, if anyone has any meat rabbits locally for me to buy.

I look for nice hind quarters and check the butts for no runny poop and missing fur and look in the ears for mites . I bought 3 nice Cali a few yrs. back and did not check them out to good and what a mess the doe Had ears full of wax mites It was a mess . I cleaned them for 3 weeks and it stunk so bad . I felt so bad for them . I will never do that again . The doe gave me one litter then died a few Months later . I did get nice Babies from her and still Have one of her kids . just make sure they are well taken care of . That is the most important thing also if it growls and snarls at you don't buy it you don't want a mean rabbit.

You are to far Pennsylvania wish you were close to me . And it cost to much to mail them to many restrictions for that . Thanks anyways . My friend had 3 cats shipped here from Florida she was willed them.
and it cost that ladies family 200.00 buck for the plane trip They were not happy about it. The cats were scared to death when she got them it took them months to come out of hiding .

Just another stepping stone towards my, "screw the world" lifestyle :) I found an ad on CL for a guy getting out of his meat rabbit venture and ended up with 3 bred Californian does, 1 younger Cali doe, a Cali buck, and 3 younger NZ cross does.

My original plan was a Cali trio and a NZW trio, but the lady I am getting my NZs from won't have my babies for another couple of months. I jumped on this deal figuring it would get me started and any I don't like I can cull and keep a few to breed until I can get better breeding stock, but these girls look good. However, one of the does was bred sooner than he told us and kindled the 2nd night we had them...on the wire. I managed to save 2. So in less than 48 hours I went from 0 rabbits to 8 rabbits to 10 rabbits...and I still have to get my NZs!

Rabbits seem to be a lot more work than chickens, for sure, but I think it will be sooo worth it!
I've never tried keeping meat rabbits. We have a pet bunny (too small to eat), but I think if I raised them, I could probably eat them. As a general question to everyone, what's the best breed for meat rabbits? I've heard they taste better if you keep them in greens and fruits. Do you confine your rabbits to a hutch or do they have a run, like chickens?

I have 2 meat does now and we built an awesome hutch for them out of 1/2 " hardware cloth and leftover hardwood flooring material
