I got two bunnies!! My first bunnies ever!

I agree with every thing you said. I also forgot about spraying.. ya.. 2 males can make your house smell like a skunk lives there.. I also agree that someone else may not have rabbit fights but the rest of us probably have never been that lucky. The good news is the males are a breeze to fix.

my rabbit was spayed for 369...
so i think 140 sounds like a good deal

congrats on the rabbit
i really do love rabbits

We've kept males together for many years, we even introduced a baby male to our established male rabbit without problems, but we did it gradually. We are currently a one rabbit family and I can't wait to find another buddy for him. We thought after Easter when everyone dumped their cute-little-Easter-bunnies-that-grew-into-rabbits. But nothing popped up around town, so we're still searching. Just my two cents

We're also lucky to be able to take all of our animals to the vet school in town and they do low cost care on all "exotics" as they are a teaching facility.

iajewel...I have problem with the idea of neutering them on my own, except that I have no one around here that would teach me and I definitely am not taking the chances of doing it on my own. I have learned (to my surprise...but, then again, it's part of raising animals) that i have a tough stomach. I will call around for someone to do it cheaper.

They bucks are 6 weeks old. Just little guys.

They are suppose to be ~9-10 lbs (Californian crosses). While they will be raised together, I don't think I will take the chance of them fighting. They may or may not, but with 2 males and no females, I may as well. The spraying alone is worth fixing them. Plus, I have read that by fixing them, they will be more docile (well, less hormonal anyway) and they are pets. While my roos are caponized, we spay/neuter our dogs and cat, so may as well get the rabbits clipped too.

I am glad to hear that bucks dig less than does!

One other thing is that to get them socialized to you then you should take them out one at a time or even separate them from each other for a day or so and work with them. If they have each other as a friend they won't need you as much and won't be as responsive. I got mine when he was 6 weeks and while I do plan on getting him a friend it won't be until we have been through training and he's bonded with me. That way when I get him a friend he will still want to play with me. :)

The humane society won't neuter until they are 4 months old but they usually are booked out months at a time so it generally works out. :) I actually booked my neuter appt before I even had my rabbit so when his appt came up for neutering he will be exactly 4 months old.

I just today got in touch with our local spay/neuter clinic, they told me that most clinics should charge for a female cat spay for a rabbit neuter or spay! So it will be 55 to neuter our boy! BUT I am going to ask if I can count him as one of the kittens when we bring them in to be "fixed" and get him in on the litter fee of 42.00 lol

After reading a rabbit care guide i decided to get my bunnies done and it cost me $130! But after reading a couple books i thought it best.

A good beginners book I found was over at http://www.rabbitprofessor.com. But better in depth books off of amazon.

Even if you just look at rabbit forums people are payin similar amounts. Wish i was a vet!

In defense of vets and the prices they charge, it takes just as much education to be an animal doctor as it does to be a people doctor. The competition to get into vet school is intense; I have a niece who once tried. BTW, after moving from Charleston SC to nowhere TN, I have discovered that vet fees vary widely from one area to another. One small benefit of living in the middle of nowhere.
