I Guess I Have to Call Her a Serial Broody

Cordon is in jail for the third time since April.

This is annoying because I had been using the dog crate as a shelter for the third feeder and where I had to move it to will not be proof against storms from the south.

It is frustrating when they go broody SO often. I have a buff orp who has been broody spring - fall every other week for 3&1/2 years, until i slipped her some bantam chicks this spring. She just went broody again yesterday. ugh.

Aghhh! I have a hen, that went broody in May. We let her hatch 3 chicks and she abandoned them at 3 weeks old. She’s broody again!

Once I have a male old enough to breed I'll let her hatch a few, but I guess I have to stop repurposing the broody jail.

I'm in the same boat, my Cuckoo Marans is heading into her 4th broody cycle of the year (not tik-tik-tiking or pancaking yet, but she's sitting in the nest a lot, and I know the signs now with her). And she seems to time it right when we have rain in the forecast, so she ends up taking up the flock's favorite rain shelter as I usually break her in the chick brooder outside.

I have 2 hens that take turns doing this. I'm lucky if I go 2 weeks without using the broody jail. It's become a permanent fixture in my coop.
