I joined a few months ago but didn't get to posting until I got totally immersed and addicted in this chicken business.

So, hi! *waves*
My name is Jennifer. I live in Pipe Creek, TX (25m NW of San Antonio in the Hill Country) with my husband, two boys (2 and 6), 2 dogs (Collie and Husky), Bearded Dragon lizard, 2 male Nubian goats and 14 chickens.

I've been married 9 years. Oh yeah, I'm 27. After 8 years of service my husband was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines, both of his choice and because of medical issues stemming from 2 tours to Iraq. We moved back home to San Antonio and after a year in a rental house there, we decided to make the jump and move into the country like we always talked about. We're on 8.5 acres and loving it. Most of it is not cleared of cedar trees so I have plenty of chicken space waiting for me out there. It's just too dad-gum hot out there to clear right now. But anyways.

My current chickens areee

2 roosters (barred rock and americauna)
12 hens (2 RIR, 1 BR, 1 mystery (I think it's a red star or something like that), 2 white leghorns, 2 americauna and 4 australorp)

Edit: I forgot to mention I have started the true chick-diction and I have 12 Salmon Faverolle eggs in an incubator, due to hatch end of July!

Welcome to BYC! Great intro Oh the chicken hatching thing is really hard to stop, I had to force myself to put the incubator away in the garage to avoid any more temptation.

Welcome to BYC, Jennifer! Great introduction. Tell your husband we said, "Thank you for his years of service to our country." You have a nice mixed flock. If you will post a pic (full body profile including legs and tail) of your mystery chicken, we can probably ID it for you (we can certainly tell you whether it's a Red Star or not). Here is the "red star". She hangs with the EEs exclusively, lol. She was from the Tractor Supply "Red Pullet" bin but her companion didn't make it, so I rushed to buy the Easter Eggers as friends.

Yes, she is definitely a Red Sex Link hen. Red Sex Links are hybrids (red gene rooster X silver gene hen) and are marketed under a lot of different labels by various hatcheries. Murray McMurray Hatchery markets their Red Sex Links under the label "Red Star." I wonder if that is who your Tractor Supply purchased them from. Red Sex Links are egg laying machines. You will be happy you purchased her for your flock.
