You have a lovely flock! Yes, like pringles potato chips, you can never have just one flock!

Great that you could join and welcome to our flock!

Good luck with the flock.

I came up with "red star" from my internet searches when trying to identify her. It's good to know all of that, thanks! :)

In addition to Red Star, Red Sex Links are also marketed by hatcheries under the names Brown Sex Link, Gold Sex Link, Cinnamon Queen, Bovans Brown, Golden Buff, Golden Comet, Hubbard Golden Comet, Isa Brown, Babcock Brown, Warrens, Shaver Brown, Bovans Goldline, etc. It can all seem a bit confusing, but they are all Red Sex Links and are all egg laying machines. There is also a Black Sex Link (Black Star), which is produced by crossing a red gene rooster (usually a RIR) with a barred gene hen (usually a Barred Rock), and they are also egg laying machines.

Well one of my two roos is a BR so if I ever hatch any out from her I might get a Black sex link! :p Great information! All the names they come up with make my head spin.

You will get a Black Sex Link if the father is a Rhode lsland Red, New Hampshire Red, or Production Red. The newly hatched male chicks will be black with a white spot on top of their heads and the female chicks will be solid black.

Oh right I read that backwards. Dur.

Just noticed you have 20 posts - so you are now able to participate in the BYC Buy,sell, trade forum.

Maybe a good way to sell any extras you have. You can even put up "wanted to buy," ad if you are seeking other breeds.

There is also a free rehoming section- some good animals that have to be placed.
