I see lots of kids. (Got an award for treating kids in Dental School) I won't treat them unless a parent (or sometimes a grandparent) is in the room.

If they can't settle down on their own with the N2O, then we reappoint until they do.

I was in my early 20's and I had some wisdom teeth coming in. Let me tell you I know how babies feel. I could have chewed on a piece of leather to relieve the pain and discomfort. The only medicine over the coutner that would touch the pain was Percogesic.

Went to the dentist and he told me two were impacted and he could pull two. Made my appointment, he gave a rx for xanax 2 the night before and 2 the morning of the procedure. My cousin drove me there, got gas and shots too. Okay the dentist goes to work. The 2 he could pull came out fine. The impacted ones, get ready for this, he ended up with his knee on the arm of the chair and pulling. You could hear my teeth cracking. I had tears rolling down my cheek:hit . He stopped and said, we can do this later at another time. I said NO! In a muffled voice with the numbness, I said get it done because I will not come back for this!
I don't remember getting home and getting up the steps to my apartment!

Believe it or not, many toothpastes actually put a small amount of "SUGAR" in them to make them taste good!

Many are abrasive also. I do use listerine toothpaste from time to time... I keep some on hand in case I run out of the liquid. You can actually clean your teeth with water as long as you are getting down into the gums (softly) In areas where water was not fluoridated, toothpaste that contained fluoride helped to bridge the gap in helping to strengthen the enamel.

As a side note, I regularly suggest that folks who have problems with decay chew a gum with Xylitol. Some Trident gums have it. Google it and you can find different ways to buy it.
Studies have actually proven that kids who get xylitol on a regular basis can actually REVERSE the caries process for incipient caries.
