I had to giggle, " most aggressive dogs"

i didn't get to read it.. computer is slow. so. i have to say, i think that pitts, dobermans, and rottweilers get a bad rap cuz of bad people. I have never met a bad one in those three breeds. now.. chihuahuas, dachsunds.. yeah i see bad ones all over around here. i will not own one of those. my mom has a rott.. and i have to say.. BIG couch potato(just hard headed..she's knocked me in the head when she would swing around to get petted lol) i love dogs and i have a bull terrier, a french bulldog and a chinese crested. i hope to get into a bigger house(i only want three pooches at a time) and i am hoping to get a doberman sometime. id never get a chinese crested again. he's a little wimp and too many issues lol. with the cold and sun. i love im to death but it's just a hassle with shirts and making sure he's warm enough(my house is always chilly cuz i don't handle the heat well)

From working in a vet clinic--I do have to agree w/ dashshund, akita, springer spaniel ("springer rage"), chihuahua.

Not pit bulls, cattle dogs--those or usually sweet.

Beagles are iffy, dobies are iffy, german shepards too.

They definetly left some naughty ones off the list (sorry, dealing w/ a 100 dogs a day here people): mastiffs (any kind), rottweillers, the northern breeds, shar peis, chow-chow, great danes, most the small ones (min-pins, shih-ziu, jack russels).

Don't get me wrong--these dogs are in a strange environment, probably haven't been socialized correctly and take it out on us. These are just the breeds that are more prone in a clinic setting to be more aggressive.

That's not to say we haven't had a golden retriever or a lab who has had to wear a cage muzzle for their whole stay.

No surprise here either...people just don't really take them seriously as "aggressive" because of their size. My SIL's dashund is quite aggressive with people (other than her owners). She will bark, growl and snap at visitors. And my BIL's chihuahua is similar, although he's more that way with other animals. So if he growls and bites at my big ole goofball golden retriever, and my golden retriever barks at him, my BIL will say "Your dog sure doesn't like mine." He completely overlooks that his chihuahua would be hanging from my dogs throat if it could reach that high.

I agree. And an Australian Shepherd is not even an Australian breed!

Is it just me, or is there no number 3 in that slideshow? My guess would be cocker spaniel for number 3. I worked in vet clinics years ago and Cocker's were in their height of popularity. I dreaded having to work with them because they were so likely to snap and bite. Don't get me wrong - I also met some sweet Cocker's, but the vast majority were horrible little dogs.

I must explain why it had me in a fit of giggles:

Most Everyone complains fusses and is terrified of Pits and Rotts, Yet the Pitt comes in 6th behind pocket meanies.
Rotts and Dobies are not even close on this list.

I do find it amusing that my Chi rules over my 80+ lb Malamute. and the chi has only been here a few weeks.
Thankfully the Mal is non aggressive to the little barking rat, but I do find it funny to see the barking rat hanging off the long fur of the Mal while the Beast tries to shake it off. ( comic relief I guess)

My friends Dobie and Rotti were ruled over by yet another Chi, bring a Chi into the house and both dogs submit to the smaller dog.

I do love that picture of the pillow hugger that cracked me up.
I also wish more people would pay attention to some of these study type news items, maybe they would see dogs in a whole different light. ( they may not correctly identify the breed correctly all the time but they are important non the less)
while some dogs are "taught" to be mean most are brought up in proper environments and not agressive.
Little dogs tend to be snappy mean, vicious, and generaly all around trouble bubbles with sharp teeth.

Might I add that I loved that stupid dobie so much, that despite my horrendous allergies and health problems, if Someone left one on our doorstep I wouldn't turn it away? This is not a hint

Right.

SOoooo, who set up this list anyway? I didn't catch that - who did it and what criteria did they use? I had to declare my dog a spaniel mix mutt for homeowners insurance (well... she did have a huge patch of white with black spots on her belly, and wasn't docked or bobbed).

Yay for dogs and cats and chickens. I am thankful for all the critters!

i have a corgi myself-Ein, and i know how he reacts to larger dogs since he is still a young boy-a little afraid but cautious and somewhat playful, small dogs he just wants to play with and run them over. but i understand the whole size issue with little dogs.

my neighbors to the right of our house have 2 little dogs-min pin and some sort of terrier that has the same body type just different color. and when i've gone outside with my dog they come charging over barking and growling but stop short of biting me or Ein. still a frightening sight.
