I had to giggle, " most aggressive dogs"

Quote:
I totally agree. I have had Rottweiler’s for years and NEVER had any problems out of any of them. They think they are big babies and with their weight… maybe they will knock you down when in a VERY playful mood but never anything aggressive. My Miniature Schnauzer is more apt to bite than any of our other dogs. In fact anytime kids, other than my own, are around he has to be put up. He will nip.

I've heard wonderful things about Dobies, particularly if they do NOT have boxed ears... one fella said that boxing them just makes their hearing even more acute and thus makes them kinda jumpy... I'd be jumpy too if I could hear every cricket hopping in a five mile radius.

The only dog bite I've witnessed was when I was a kid. The cranky dalmation next door got a girlfriend and all us neighborhood kids were invited to say hi... I did NOT like Sparky (the boy) always was cranky so I just watched. Good thing too because when Angie tried to reach over to pet the GIRL (at the owner's suggestion) Sparky lunged and bit the snot out of her. It was the weirdest thing though, he got her in the elbow so the teeth didn't pierce the underside, only the inside of her elbow and there were two holes. Just perfect holes, like a vampire bite or something. And they didn't bleed, just kinda sat there... like the holes didn't know how they got there and didn't know what to do. That was a very weird experience.

Mattie bites the vacuum, and Janie (doxie) will go crazy over the vacuum, broom, or rake... but she never gets up the nerve to bite those.

Lily barks when the others do, but mostly just runs in circles...

Weird little critters but boy do we love them.

Edited because I can't spell...

I dont see how letting your dog on the furniture would make them mean. Ive let every dog I have ever owned on my couch and sleep at the foot of my bed. The above list is the list of dogs I have owned and their temperment. My blue heeler mix and my great dane/bull mastiff mix both slept on my bed with me at night. And sat by me on the couch while watching tv.

The same with my chis. One mean, 3 fine. Have all had the same training. Slept on my bed. Sat on the couch. All had same training as the larger breeds. My chis are on the floor to walk. Are not carried every where. Unless its getting them out of my car. I had one break a leg jumping out of it. But other than that they walk on a leash.

But I just dont see why you would say letting a dog on the furniture would make their behavior bad.

You had a King Size right? But... bet you never had to buy an electric blanket though... hmmm...

Mine are spoiled... they get to sleep on the couches, but not in bedrooms.
They get some scraps, but only after we're ALL done eating and they go outside to their dish before getting a bit.

So... guess they're only 50% spoiled...

They bark like crazy at ANY company... but settle down shortly... for some it's 10 seconds for some 5 minutes but they do calm back down... and then usually want attention. If they don't get it then they go back to their spot... which moves depending on what room I'm in.

Okay... so maybe 75% spoiled...

Funny though is that my uncle's dog Skeemer... he was sharpee (sp?) and bull and the sweetest thing ever... it was bizarre. A cousin once grabbed this dog by his... jewels and even then he did not snap... did growl but did not snap... that's boggling... my aunt put PB on that cousin's toes (scared him into thinking that Skeemer would get him back)... dog licked off every bit, tickled like mad but not so much as a graze of a tooth.... of course if anyone ever tried to get in their yard (as my uncle had to when he forgot his key) you do NOT hear him move you just suddenly hear a growl three feet away...

I think that just like people dogs can have some genetic issues, but a lot of it is environment... the old nature vs nurture argument I suppose.

I cant believe those littlke terriers were not on the list, I dont think I have ever met one that did not try to bite my ankles

Those "studies" are meaningless to me without knowing what all the variables and controls were used in the studies. Any dog can be aggressive given the "right" circumstances, training, genetics, etc. Where did these dogs come from? What traits did the breeders make an effort to include or not include in their gene pool? What kind of training did they get? and by whom? What kind of socialization? From what environment?

Thanks for the post though, there were some nice pictures included

I own a Dachsund and he is the meanest dog I have ever had, next to my MinPin. He is very aggressive. He just tried to attack my dad as he was walking out the door. I am fixing to put a shock collar on him.

everytime I see the picture of him smiling with all his teeth hanging out I just want to smoosh him.

I will have to go back and re read the article, but most times such lists are from reported dog biteseither from animal control or a hospital, they may not be valid in some eyes but its something to think about especially where as christmas is coming up , and lately I have been seeing a lot of pleas for puppys for a childs present.
