They’ve been raised with the chickens, they all grew up together. Everyone told me ducks and chickens would most likely be fine together. Well my ducks (2 drakes 2 ducks ) have started hanging up on chickens like a horror movie !
I thought the males may be trying to mate with them ( grabbing them by the hair pinning head to ground) but then he drags them that way to his nest and what’s weird is they all follow and participate the other males and both females !! So I guessit’s not mating ! They really hate or love (depending upon what they’re doing ) this one chicken. Her head bloody and I had to doctor her up and move her to isolation, after she healed I let her out and they got her again . I put her back into isolation ( I didn’t know it was the ducks yet)
But last night they got a Orpington and ripped her comb off . I put her in isolation to protect her from the other chickens and I had to cage my ducks up . I have to build them a fenced in run area and I don’t have the materials time or money yet so until then I put one and one . One male one female in each cage together .
but it’s small and I hate it !!! I’d let them go and let them free range but they don’t fly and there’s stray dogs here and hawks etc. sigh
Idk why they turned mean

Right, that’s why I keep putting them in isolation however now they’re just picking a new target. Yes many people told me to watch the chickens around the ducks because they might hurt them . Nope not in my coop the ducks run things and they are now killing my chickens

Your male ducks and roosters are ramping up their breeding for spring, theres a good chance they will get worse before getting better

A person should have 4 female ducks for every male duck. And idealy 1 male and many female ducks. its the same for roosters chicken hens

Your ducks are especialy dangerous to your chickens because male ducks have penises and roosters dont. So hens arent made to have insertive mating and it causes internal damage

As hard as it can be the responsible thing todo is keep Only female ducks and female chickens and 1 rooster

Keeping mean drakes is torture for the hens

Yeah well I didn’t and I have two drakes , I’m not killing them so eventually I’ll add more females and build them their own space I guess
For now is one drake with one female duck ok caged up ? Or should I separate them?

Well the math seys no, But people do it

Keep an eye on them

i had a beautifull young flock last. 2 crested pekins, a massive jumbo pekin some kahkis and an appleyard drake

He was a sweet boy. But in a week he drowned my 2 crested and the jumbo pekin. They can be very very mean and cross when your not looking

My Call Ducks absolutely hate chickens. Mine are totally separated even when outside of there pens.
A used 10X10 dog Run with a dog house is great for Ducks.
Can I see a picture ?? But I guess I will still have to get rid of one male or add six females
And wil 10 ducks ( which I really don’t want) I’ll need a much larger area
What’s the lowest possible amount of females for two males?

I've never had luck with two mature Drakes and Hens. It always turns into fighting and both wanting the same poor Hen.
I'd honestly make it simpler and get rid of the one Drake. He will be fine with only two hens.
