I hatched this chick without an incubator and this is what it looks like.

What do I do about that yolk? The belly looks red also. The chick is making a fuss.

She's doing really well. Already had to stop her from swimming in her waterer. Acting like duck!

I used a card board box and made approximately 5" by 5" cutouts on each side for ventilation. Then I heated the entire bathroom with an electric heater and turned the shower on hot and let it run often so the air was thick and humid. I used a digital heat thermometer and a baby thermometer to simultaneously measure temps. I also placed a hot washcloth inches away, but not touching because I noticed when I tried to have it too close the temps near the eggs would drop due to evaporation.

One of the eggs got too hot at night due to reduced traffic in and out of the bathroom. The other chick had pipped at that time early in the morning. So the following night I set timers ever 3 hours where I would go in and turn in the shower and talk to chick for a while.

I did assist despite being told not to because I was watching closely and didn't see the chick 'turning' in it's shell. I only chipped away at parts I saw no veins and gently peeled away some shell so it could pop out easier.

When she was ready she simply 'popped' out of the shell. She never tuned and stayed in the same position the whole time so maybe that wasn't a mistake after all.

All things said she's happy and healthy and I didn't give up on her.

Well that may be the most unique way of incubating I've ever heard of (besides the bra thing, which I don't know if any were successful). Glad you got a live one!

Looks like its yolk sac has ruptured.

The blood has me worried, maybe it hatched too soon. Can only wait to see if it will absorb the yolk or die.

Someone else said it was actually just poop. Sorry lol I tend to use 'chick' as a generic term erroneously.
