I hate Alabama WEATHER!!!

My Chickies (2 weeks old tomorrow) are spending their first week outside in our dairy barn. I have x4 red 250 watt heat lamps on them.... Last night the temp was 1 degree with a -18 degree windchill! I sure hope spring gets here soon!

Ya'all are welcome to come to NE Ohio where the only thing that seems to be constant right now is cold! Blarg - I hate this cold weather. I need to clean my barn - I can't stand the cold weather... I'm getting ready to put my house on the market and it's too miserable to be outside and too cold to paint and do handywoman work that needs updated!

And yes I have 2 heat lamps on my birds as well - I suppose they are hardy enough to turn them off but the temps have been fluctuating so much up and down (bitter cold) that I feel sorry for them.

We could use some of that rain in parts of Texas. It is dry and we have burn bans.

It has been cold....got down into the sixties at night. brrrrrrr

It hit us last night with terrible winds, thunder, lightening, and side-ways rain. Now it's sunny and beautiful--but when you step outside the wind slices through you with a COLD chill. Suppose to freeze tonight and tomorrow night. So much for all those beautiful electric green buds!

I live in FLORIDA for a reason--we don't like to be COLD!!!

I think what alot of people tend to forget is that no matter where you live and what YOUR temps are, it matters more WHERE the chicks are coming FROM and what the temps are in that region!

Once they get into your hands then you have control over their environment. Until then they are in transit from what could be very unsuitable conditions. Like most of the hatcheries in Iowa. The temps in that region are still below freezing and shipments are much better off waiting until temps moderatate.

I get my chicks from an Iowa Hatchery, but I wait until May for shipment. YES I want them sooner!

But patience really pays off.

I just thought I'd add my humble 2 cents for those who may be new or ordering for the first time.

It was 72 yesterday here in Dothan and we had the AC on. This morning it was 35 and then got colder and started snowing.. I'm sorry but I just can't buy into global warming. It is freezing here now. Next week it will probably be in the 70's again and i am looking forward to that.
