I had a friend ask how my chickens laid eggs without a rooster.... I felt kind of bad cause I couldn't stop myself from laughing!

lol i would laugh too. now having chickens myself for almost 2 years its really hard for me to grasp some people dont know these things.

Sometimes it just takes a personal good experience to overcome perceptions. A friend of mine built my coop. During the process he mentioned that he hated chickens. His experience was that they were mean and dirty. But he changed his tune has he watched my chicks starting to grow (it took much longer to build that coop than I thought). I think some kids grew up on farms and had the job of mucking out a dirty coop which then informed their later opinions.
My sister had a mean little banty rooster named Friendly (hah!) who would fly straight at anyone walking toward to coop, claws out. That was my first experience. But when I was later introduced to someones backyard flock of Buff Orpingtons, I fell in love.
It may be a slow process changing people's minds, but we can do it

I've had to explain the whole thing over and over again. Some folks just thing you have to have a guy around to take care of business!

Personally, I love chickens. Expecially marinated in fruit juices and BBQ'ed!!

I love my 6 laying pullets, most of the time. The lay almost an egg a day each and they are sweet and vocal. Sometimes, they peck at each other, which stresses me out. I do not like any kind of tension, be it from humans, animals or my chickens.

BUT I am FURIOUS with my month old babies this morning! Maybe hate is too strong, but severely displeased does not begin to cover it. I have 5 BAs, 6 NHs (already sold, but not yet picked up) and 18 assorted bantams. They were running in a circle this morning chasing one of the little OEG hens. I thought she had a treat, but it turns out she was the treat!

They had picked her tail feathers until she was bleeding! So, I got her out of the brooder and put her in a cage and here she is with me at the office, perched on my finger while I type with the other hand!

A friend of mine recently said that chickens were pigs with wings, but after some of the bloodthirsty acts I have seen, I would call them piranhas with feathers!

I may like chickens but I don't expect everyone, or even most people, to like them. They are, in fact, dirty, smelly and many other things, because they are an animal, and a bird, that's just how it is. I think a campaign to get a lot more people to like chickens is a waste of time.

Okay here goes with a dumb question. I do not have chickens, only ducks and geese. The lady that sells eggs at the farmers market told the lady in front of me that her chickens all lay 2 eggs per day. Is that possible? I thought one egg most days was good. Am I wrong?
