I know it is possible to lay more than one egg a day, but the eggs usually have a lousy thin shell (1 or both) or no shell at all. Sometimes stress can do this too.
Edited to add...my friend just posted on her facebook page that her only white egg laying chicken laid two eggs for her on Sunday. Timing on her post is interesting! Just goes to show you it is possible!

Ha ha ha...you may be wrong, but you may be right!
I am finding I love talking about my chickens, and some of my non-farming friends are playing with the idea of starting their own flock because of my enthusiasm. Timing is everything. If someone told me two years ago I would have a backyard full of chickens, I would have called them crazy! Yet here I am with lots (still not enough) and trying to show people the bright side of having chickens! At the very least I am entertained daily.

Just caught this thread muggs - love it! I also get that - "Oh, poor thing, she's a few cards shy of a deck" look when I start talking about my chickens. Especially when I talk about the shows and my "show chickens." I did try to have a mini-seminar at my town library about how to have chickens, but the director said no because she felt it wasn't in the library's interest, or didn't meet their goals, or some cr@p. I heard later that she's kind of a snob - they are always scheduling poetry readings and piano recitals - so she probably thought it was too redneck. I hate people.

Holy crow Mary! You not only hit it on the head...you sure made me laugh while doing it! Good stuff! You can tell me all about your show chickens any day.
Also, I just want to let you know your little Widget is a LOVE! She is hanging out in a pen with a little Black Tail White Japanese and a handful of Silkies. They are all so sweet together, and she is the first that greets me and wants to be pet.

Thank you for her!
Isn't she the cutest? I'm so glad you took her - she was really lost in my coop - my other bantys don't seem to have the same problem. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Good grief, where was that poor girl keeping all those eggs? It's like having 14 kids at a time... all normal sized to boot!
Only person I know of that had any actual experience with chickens around here was DH's coworker... and the stories he told. *shudder* But then, he was a fan of 'fighting'... thought it was fabulous... would go on and ON about it. Mostly he just made me mad.
your totally right people always look disgusted or laugh when I say I have chickens. they always think they know more about chickens then I do. (referring to first post)
