I hate coons, UPDATE #52 got'em!

Thank you!

Good tip!

I have no problems with that. But that's just me.

I don't have a problem with it either. My only concern
was the stuff getting into the surrounding water. It's
pretty nasty stuff.

All I did was buy a can of it. Someone else suggested it
after reading this thread.

if i put it in jelly or something like you suggested and put it in the trap, and the raccoon eats it and then either is trapped or gets away, is there really any risk of it getting in the water?

that really is a concern to me also; we live right next to a creek, and i don't want to randomly kill wildlife - just the creeps who are killing my chickens.

Hmm... Either the door catch isn't working, or hes reaching through to get the bait. It may be time to put out some golden Marlin for him.

1/2 cup GM and 1/4 cup fruit jelly set out in a pie tin. What ever eats it be close by dead.

i know that he was inside because of the gooey stuff that i put in plastic container - the container was CLEAN.

and the door to the trap was CLOSED.

so i wonder if he's just so big he was able to eat the goodies and hold the door open.

either way, i think gm might be my friend. it won't matter if the trap works.

Nothing worse than having to cull some of our flock. EXCEPT finding some predator got them.

We raise these things from Day 1 and they're family. So when a dog or other predator gets into our coops
and kills our birds there is a serious problem that must be dealt with. We all answer to the same Creator. We
all have to choose how to cull or deal with predators. I find this is a private matter between myself and my Lord.

I know Susan real well, my wife and I have PMed with her many times. She'd not do anything callous if she could
help it.

Hey Susan !!!!
